Code of Conduct
Please note:
These rules go alongside the Bridge Command Behaviour & Etiquette Policy, which can be found here and relate to what we expect from all our customers. These rules are designed specifically to ensure all participants enjoy every mission they undertake at Bridge Command.
By attending Bridge Command, you confirm that you understand the following principles which are in place for the safety and enjoyment of everyone. If you feel one of these rules is being ignored and your experience is being impacted, speak to a member of staff and allow them to handle the situation.
THE BRIDGE COMMAND CODE OF CONDUCT
You recognise that every participant in a show holds a ticket of the same value, and is therefore entitled to enjoy the experience to a similar level. In particular, you understand that crews of the same ship (and its shuttle) are working collaboratively towards the same objectives.
You understand that missions often contain many groups of people meeting each other for the first time. No single member of a crew, or a group within a larger crew, should consider themselves the ‘main character(s)’ or behave in that manner, regardless of the role(s) they have been assigned on the ship. One participant or group forcing their ideas or decisions on the rest of the crew is therefore unacceptable behaviour, regardless of the on-ship role(s) they hold.
You know that Captains, First Officers or any crew member in a command position should always seek the consensus of the group about the approach to be taken. Repeated failure to do this will disqualify the participant from holding a command position on a ship in the future. Despite using the form of a military organisation, Bridge Command does not encourage the hierarchical behaviour often associated with those bodies.
You recognise that a positive experience for first-time participants is essential to the future life of Bridge Command. Bridge Command staff will therefore, when necessary, prioritise the specific needs of first-time attendees over those of regular participants. This includes mission selection and role assignment.
You understand that while it is possible for participants to be promoted within the show and ascend the rank structure of the UCN, these ranks confer no actual in-show authority and should not be used as a reason to force other participants to follow a specific course of action, or do anything they have not chosen to do themselves. It is possible that some long-term returning participants may hold higher in-world ranks than the characters played by members of staff, but participants of any rank must always follow instructions given by members of staff regardless of relative in-world rank or function.
You respect that no Bridge Command participant should touch the screens of a station assigned to another participant without being expressly invited to do so by that participant, or a member of staff.
You understand that Bridge Command is not a LARP, and while participants are welcome to participate ‘in character’, this is not a requirement, nor is it enforced. The expectation of the company is that participants will participate as themselves, albeit a version of themselves that exists within the Bridge Command universe. You accept that you may not be able to bring any custom props or items of costume on a mission with you, and that any decision made about this by Bridge Command staff is at their absolute discretion and is final.
You recognise that every participant should maintain a respectful manner and tone towards every other participant at all times. This includes refraining from interrupting, talking over, cutting off, behaving dismissively or disrespectfully, shouting at, or in any way abusing other participants. This applies whether a participant is participating as themselves or ‘in character’. Characters played by staff who may be behaving confrontationally can be spoken to robustly – these rules are to protect the experience of other participants, not to devalue your experience of the story.
You accept that above all, abusive or disrespectful behaviour will under no circumstances be tolerated at Bridge Command. Being 'in character' is never an excuse.
